BOULDER, Colo. – The man who pleaded guilty in September to several charges stemming from a deadly August 2015 rollover crash will spend 32 years in prison.
A Boulder County judge sentenced Kelley Wiggins, 38, to 32 years in prison Wednesday, according to Denver7's news partners at the Boulder Daily Camera. He pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment and child abuse charges in late September.
The crash happened in Boulder Canyon in August 2015 and killed Wiggins’ girlfriend, 21-year-old Alexus Valentin. Wiggins was driving, and Valentin and three others were passengers in the car.
A 1-year-old child was among the passengers, which is why Wiggins was stuck with child abuse charges.
Investigators had said Wiggins said Valentin had “needed to be eliminated” when he found out she was dead. He had apparently been upset because another passenger in the car had been flirting with Valentin.
In court, Wiggins denied the crash was intentional, but the judge gave him the sentence recommended by prosecutors.
