Man killed when ATV slams into FedEx truck outside Cañon City

William Russell, 63, came around blind curve

A man was killed Friday afternoon when the ATV he was riding collided with a FedEx delivery truck on private land about 20 miles northwest of Cañon City, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

William Russell, 63, of Cañon City, was killed when his Yamaha ATV came around a blind curve and collided with the truck, the patrol said. Russell and a passenger — who sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital — were thrown from the ATV.

The patrol said that the delivery truck was traveling downhill at about 10 mph when the ATV came around the curve at 30 or 40 mph.

The FedEx driver suffered only minor injuries, the patrol said.

Russell, who was not wearing a helmet, was flown by Flight For Life to Penrose Main Hospital in Colorado Springs where he died, according to the patrol.
