Man injured in van vs. garbage truck crash at Larimer County Landfill

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Authorities in Fort Collins say they are investigating a crash at the Larimer County Landfill Thursday that sent a man to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The wreck occurred at 3:49 p.m. at the landfill on South Taft Hill Road.

A 1983 Dodge passenger van was traveling northbound on the roadway when it struck the rear of a 2003 Mack garbage truck. The Mack truck was stopped in the northbound left turn lane waiting to turn west into the Larimer County Landfill, Fort Collins Police said.

The driver of the van, Charles Hallenbeck, 29, of Fort Collins, was pulled from the vehicle by Poudre Fire Authority personnel and taken to Medical Center of the Rockies.

The operator of the Mack truck, Jose Garcia-Rocha, 46, of Evans, was not injured in the collision.

Police had South Taft Hill between Trilby Road and West Harmony Road closed for about 4 hours as officers investigated the crash. It is not believed alcohol was involved in the wreck.

Anyone with information about the collision was asked to contact Officer David Kaes with the Fort Collins Police Department at 970-221-6555.
