Man arrested during officer shooting Monday was wanted in 5 bank robberies

DENVER – The man arrested Monday in an incident in which a Denver Police officer fired their weapon is the “bicycle bandit” police and the FBI have linked to at least five bank robberies in the area since May.

Shawn Scott, 39, is now being held for investigation of attempted murder, attempted murder of a police officer and possession of a weapon by a previous offender charges in Monday’s incident.

He is also being investigated in two armed robbery cases and had outstanding warrants on three counts of armed robbery and a failure to appear count for a prior weapon possession charge.

A Denver officer fired their weapon after police responded to a tip that Scott was near Third Street and Osage around noon Monday. Scott was not shot, but was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, police said. It’s unclear what led to the shots being fired.

Denver Police and the FBI have linked Scott to bank robberies that happened May 25, June 14, June 20, June 29 and August 23 – all in the Denver area.

Scott is set to appear in court Tuesday.
