A 33-year-old Denver man has been arrested on suspicion of negligent child abuse after police say his 1-year-old son was seriously injured when he fell from a moving car.
Ross Bobby McCoy was being held by police for investigation of negligent child abuse and other charges after the Friday night incident. He made his first court appearance on Sunday.
Police said McCoy was driving with the 1-year-old and an older sibling in the back seat when McCoy turned a corner at East 40th Avenue and North Lisbon Street and the passenger door on the 2-year-old's side opened, causing the 1-year-old to fall out at about 9:30 p.m.
Denver police spokesman Raquel Lopez said the boy had been in a car seat and police were investigating how the mishap happened.
According to police, McCoy left the scene but was arrested Saturday in Aurora.
The victim suffered serious injuries when he fell from the vehicle, police said.
