GEORGETOWN, Colo. – Skiers eager to get the season started rejoiced as Loveland Ski Area fired up Lift 1 Friday morning.

Hundreds were on hand as the ski area opened for the season Friday. Skiers and snowboarders who hit the slopes opening day were treated to an 18-inch base.

“The snow we received in early October has been a tremendous help, and our snowmakers have put in a lot of hard work to ensure the first turns of the season are good ones,” said COO Rob Goodell.

Loveland said it would continue to make snow around the base of Lift 1 and then open additional terrain as quickly as they can.

Loveland’s opening comes a week after Arapahoe Basin began its season, making A-Basin the first ski area to open for the 2017-18 ski season in Colorado.

Other Colorado ski areas appear to be sticking to their previously announced opening dates. See opening dates for Colorado's most popular ski resorts here.
