LONGMONT, Colo. - A 16-year-old boy died after a hit-and-run crash on New Year's Eve in Longmont.
The teen was hit on North Main Street, near 21st Avenue, at about 10 p.m., according to Sgt. Dave Moore with the Longmont Police Department.
Police said there was a fight between a group of men near Noodles, and the teen was running away from it when he was hit by the car.
Officers said several white men and a black man were involved in a fight near Pizza Hut earlier in the night. Police talked to several of the participants, but never found the black man.
A little more than an hour later, a group of black men confronted the group of white men and a fight broke out, police said.
Police reports indicate the group of black men arrived in as many as three different vehicles.
The teen was part of the fight, but was running away when he was hit by a van going southbound on Main St.
Here is a description of the van police are looking for:
- 1995-2002 Chevy van
- Light in color, possibly tan or gray
- One rear window
- May have a rear mounted spare tire
- May have front end damage
- May have rear end damage from being hit by an unrelated vehicle that stayed at the scene
The victim's identity is not being released until his relatives have been notified.
