Longmont man accused of setting home on fire while police officers were inside

LONGMONT, Colo. - A Longmont man is accused of setting his trailer home on fire while two police officers were inside trying to arrest him.

Thomas Hibdon is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault on a police officer and first-degree arson, police records show.  He is also charged with two counts of misdemeanor menacing, two counts of cruelty to animals, possession of an illegal weapon, and failure to leave a premises when ordered to do so.

Officers contacted Hibdon at his home on South Main St. on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Hibdon retreated to his bedroom, lit the fire, then crawled out of a window onto the roof, according to the Longmont Times-Call.

Officers shot him twice with bean bag rounds and took him into custody, the Times-Call reported.

Hibdon has a lengthy criminal record, with charges including assault, theft, domestic violence and escape. Hibdon is also facing an impersonation charge out of Boulder from earlier this month.
