LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) — Officials say it's not in the public's interest to release a 40-page document detailing the independent investigation into warrantless police searches at a subsidized housing apartment complex in northern Colorado.

The Longmont Times-Call reports city officials instead released a summary of the probe by the Weld County Sheriff's Office, saying the searches are still being reviewed by Longmont's Public Safety Department.

Sheriff's investigators say the use of police dogs in warrantless drug searches at the Longmont Housing Authority's complex wasn't consistent with the police department's standards.

A resident shed light on the searches when she expressed concern about a notice that police dogs would be accompanying property managers in unit searches in May, and that she was not told that she could opt out.
