Locker room burglar ran from crime scene after trying to break into lockers in men's locker room

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - A man suspected of stealing or attempting to steal belongings from lockers in a Jefferson County recreation center -- twice -- was arrested Tuesday, the Jefferson County Sheriff's office said.

Deputies were called to the Ridge Recreation Center at 6613 South Ward St. in Littleton on a report of a man trying to break into the lockers in the men's locker room. Before they arrived, an employee of the gym confronted the man, who fled the building, got into a truck in the parking lot and drove away.

A deputy who was approaching the area saw the suspect and pulled him over. He was then arrested and identified as 43-year-old Mel Peter Trujillo. He is also the suspect in a locker burglary at the same gym on Sunday.

Trujillo was booked into the Jefferson County Jail for investigation of burglary and criminal mischief.
