BOULDER, Colo. – Actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio is investing in LoveTheWild, a Boulder-based food company that produces ready-to-cook, frozen fish entrees.

DiCaprio joined investment fund Aqua-Spark and other investors in contributing to LoveTheWild’s Series A funding round, which raised $3 million for the company. He also will join LoveTheWild’s advisory board.

Co-founders Jacqueline Claudia and Christy Brouker launched LoveTheWild in 2014 with the goal of providing sustainably-harvested fish from easily-traceable sources. The entrees all use farm-raised fish and each package lists information on where the fish came from, including the name of the farm and even the farmer.

In a statement provided by LoveTheWild, DiCaprio praised the company’s use of farm-raised fish in its products.

“Seafood is a primary source of protein for nearly a billion people – but climate change, acidification and over fishing are putting increased pressure on our oceans’ natural stability,” DiCaprio said. “LoveTheWild’s approach to sustainable, responsible aquaculture is promoting the development of a secure and environmentally-conscious solution to feeding our planet’s growing population.”

LoveTheWild offers four varieties of frozen fish entrees that sell for between $6.99 and $10.99. The company’s products can be found in 33 states at stores like Whole Foods, Sprouts, Wegmans and MOM’s.
