Legacy High School student killed in Westminster crash identified

WESTMINSTER, Colo. – Authorities identified Monday the Legacy High School student killed crossing a busy intersection in Westminster.

Jory Coates, 16, was struck and killed by a car as the teen tried to cross the intersection at West 112th Avenue and Federal Boulevard Saturday morning.

District officials said grief counselors are on hand at Legacy High School for students and staff as the they mourn the loss of one their own.

Jory impacted many people with his music. The teen played in the school’s marching band.

Police say a female driver had side swiped a car before continuing north on Federal, where investigators said the driver struck the teen, who was standing on the northeast median at West 112th Avenue.

At this time, police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor.
