AURORA, Colo. -- The City of Aurora is holding its final meeting of the summer on the "Original Aurora" rezoning plan. This is the area between Peoria and Yosemite, and 11th and 26th avenues.

According to the city, the proposed plan would update the zoning along key corridors in Original Aurora from single-use zoning to mixed-use zoning. This zoning update could allow housing, shops, restaurants and offices to be located closer together, creating more services, things to do and jobs close to home, and put more "eyes on the street" to increase public safety.

The city held two meetings earlier this summer. A spokesperson says based on the feedback received at those workshops, they made adjustments to the proposed zoning map, as well as changes to design standards and how certain uses could be approved.

Some of the ideas that came up included more high density residential along Yosemite, wider sidewalks to make areas more pedestrian friendly, and maximum building heights.

The third and final community meeting is tonight from six to eight p.m. at the Martin Luther King Junior at 9898 E. Colfax Ave. The zoning commission and city council will have to approve any changes.
