Larimer Sheriff's Office correctional deputy resigns after inmate claims excessive force

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. - Authorities say a Larimer County correctional deputy resigned Friday amid allegations that he used excessive force against an inmate.

Deputy Simon Suarez was employed by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office for five years.

Suarez was being investigated after an inmate claimed he used excessive force against him as he was being escorted to the booking area for additional processing.

Officials with the Sheriff's Office said a review of the complaint was initiated and Suarez was placed on paid administrative leave.

After the initial review, the case was turned over to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division and then to the Larimer County District Attorney's Office for a final review.

On Friday, Suarez was issued a summons, pending a further court date, for official oppression, a misdemeanor, according to a news release.
