Lakewood death investigation escalates into suspected murder; Detectives arrest two suspects

Suspects were acquaintances of the victim

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Two days after finding a man dead inside a Lakewood home, detectives have arrested two suspects in the murder.

Lakewood Police were originally called to a residence in the 1500 block of Depew St. at 9:40 a.m. Saturday to do a welfare check, department spokesman Steve Davis said. Inside, they found the victim, who has not yet been publicly identified.

"Detectives felt strongly the elderly male victim died as the result of a homicide," Davis wrote in a press release.

James Dominquez-Castor, 22, and Stephvon Atencio, 20, were arrested on the charge of first degree murder. Both are believed to have known the victim.

Initial court appearances for the two suspects will occur either Monday or Tuesday, Davis said.

An autopsy of the victim will occur this week, and the victim's family will be notified of the death.

Anyone with information about this case or the suspects is asked to call Lakewood Police at 303-987-7111.
