DENVER – Grocery store chain King Soopers is recalling prepackaged chicken salad sandwiches over concerns that the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected product was sold at King Soopers and City Market stores in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming. The recall affects prepackaged 6.8-ounce sandwiches with UPC 663209-02050 and “Sell By” dates of Sept. 20 through Sept. 28.
King Soopers said the sandwich manufacturer, Journey Cuisine, notified them of the possible contamination on Sept. 21. The grocery chain removed the item from store shelves and began notifying customers who may have bought the affected sandwiches.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems. The infection also can cause miscarriage or stillbirth.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the sandwiches, the company said.
Anyone who purchased the affected product can return it to the store for a refund or replacement. Those with questions can contact King Soopers’s parent company Kroger at 1-800-KROGERS (1-800-576-4377).
