Kids reunited with parents after being kidnapped in truck left running, unlocked in Commerce City

Dad left kids in truck outside liquor store

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Two children kidnapped when a thief stole a running vehicle outside a liquor store on Sunday night have been reunited with their parents.

Commerce City Police said a mother and father were shopping with their kids around 7:30 p.m. when the group split up.

Mom went to Walmart, while the father and the kids drove to a nearby liquor store.

Dad left the kids in the running, unlocked truck while he went into the store, police said.

When he came out, the truck and the kids were gone.

Police said an hour later, someone called 911 and said they found the truck, with the kids still inside.

The children were not hurt, investigators said.

"The parents and children have been reunited, and the investigation into this incident is ongoing," police said in a news release.

No one has been arrested and authorities have not released a description of the thief.

The ages of the children were not released.
