DENVER - Two adults have been charged with multiple counts of child abuse after four children were found in their Denver home malnourished and not toilet trained.
The charges against Wayne Sperling, 66, and Lorinda Bailey, 35, allege the children, aged 2, 4, 5 and 6, were unreasonably placed in a situation that posed a threat to their health and that there was a pattern of conduct that resulted in malnourishment and mistreatment.
In addition to noting the unsanitary conditions of the home, the arrest affidavit cites medical reports that the children were non-verbal. They are now in protective care .
Sperling and Bailey were each charged with four counts of felony child abuse. They remain jailed under $5,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 8, to be formally advised of the charges.
