Judge rejects former Montezuma County undersheriff's plea deal

CORTEZ, Colo. - A judge has rejected a proposed plea deal for a former Montezuma County undersheriff charged with using taxpayer money to pay for personal items, including firearms.

The Cortez Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1bAUHQt ) District Judge Todd Plewe turned down Robin Cronk's proposed agreement Thursday because it did not include any jail time. Under the deal, Cronk would've pleaded guilty to a felony count of embezzlement and a misdemeanor count of official misconduct. He also would've had to pay restitution, forfeit property and be on unsupervised probation for six months.

Cronk is charged with 17 embezzlement counts involving purchases totaling more than $7,400. He resigned in June and was arrested in July after a Colorado Bureau of Investigation probe.

Cronk is accused trying to sell some of the firearms by posting classified ads.
