GOLDEN, Colo. - An inmate was found hanging in his cell at a Jefferson County prison in an apparent suicide Thursday night.
A sheriff’s deputy at the Jefferson County Detention Facility was performing a walk-through check where the prisoner was being held when he found the man, 24, hanging in his cell at 10:15 p.m.
Sheriff’s deputies began administering CPR immediate and called for additional medical assistance. The man was pronounced dead at 10:46 p.m.
The inmate was a Department of Corrections prisoner who had been transferred to the Jefferson County Jail earlier in the day to attend a court proceeding.
The identity of the inmate is being withheld until his next of kin have been notified.
Officials say all indications are that the man died of an apparent suicide. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death, after which the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
