Independence Pass is scheduled to close for the season Friday afternoon.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says the brunt of a storm is expected to arrive in western Colorado late Friday, bringing snow to the mountains.
Colorado Department of Transportation officials say it's time to close Colorado Highway 82 over 12,095-foot Independence Pass with the storm on its way. The pass, across the Continental Divide, connects Aspen and Twin Lakes.
It is the second-highest pass with an improved road in the state and the fourth-highest paved road in Colorado.
