In eight simple words, a downtown Denver mural is focusing on mental health

DENVER -- When you drive down one of downtown Denver's busiest streets, you'll be greeted by a mural with eight words and one powerful message.

You matter. You are brave. You are enough.

"It's not a lot of words but it's powerful words," artist Pat Milbery told Denver7.

Pat and his fellow artist Jason Graves are the ones behind the mural at 1900 Broadway, on the side of the Avis Car Rental downtown branch.

"Hopefully it’ll grab you and pull you out of a funk or on a light note, it’ll allow you to have an insight to your self-worth or self-confidence," Milbery said.

The point is to focus on mental health, to open a dialogue about depression, and combat suicide.

"I’ve had a few really close friends take their lives over my lifetime and it really wasn't easy," Milbery added.

So the thousands of people who drive by will have positive thoughts put front and center. And that's the goal.

"You're a lot greater than you think you are and have to offer this world," he said.

"You matter. You are brave. You are enough."
