DENVER - A Colombian arrested during drug raids in the Denver metro area last week is being charged with illegal gun possession.
Prosecutors say Hector Diaz, 49, was found with five assault rifles, one shotgun and five handguns, as well as a large cache of ammunition inside a home in Cherry Hills Village.
Diaz was arrested when Drug Enforcement Administration agents, in partnership with several state and local law enforcement agencies, executed 16 search warrants as part of what officials called, "an ongoing criminal investigation. "
The Denver Post first reported that the raided locations were marijuana businesses that are being investigated for a possible connection to Colombian drug cartels.
Prosecutors said Diaz is from Columbia and is in the U.S. legally.
