Illegal drugs accidentally sent to newspaper

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. - A Western Colorado newspaper received a very trippy letter to the editor: a misdirected postal package containing suspected psychoactive mushrooms.

The (Glenwood Springs) Post-Independent reported Wednesday that the package sat unclaimed for two months before staffers made the unexpected discovery this week (http://bit.ly/1aOnWtC ). The package was opened on Monday to reveal an undetermined amount of suspected psilocybin mushrooms.

The U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail package, which was about 12 inches square and 8 inches deep, had an original postal date of mid-July, and was returned undeliverable to the newspaper office around mid-August. It had a recipient address in South Bend, Ind.

The find was turned over to the Glenwood Springs Police Department. The inter-agency Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Team is investigating.
