DENVER – The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the Quebec exit were shut down just before rush hour Thursday evening near the scene of police activity and a smoldering squad car.

Denver Police confirm one of their cars was burning and fire crews were responding. Dispatchers confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Eastbound I-70 was closed and traffic backed up in the area. All lanes were cleared around 5:30 p.m.

Denver Police were assisting Commerce City Police on a vehicle stop in the area when, for an unknown reason, the police cruiser caught fire.

The suspects involved in the vehicle stop were taken into custody. However, it's unclear what suspected crime the individuals were alleged to be involved in.
