5 wrecks closed I-70 at Genesee Friday

GENESEE, Colo. - Five separate wrecks forced the Colorado Department of Transportation to close Interstate 70 near Genesee Friday morning.

Officials told 7NEWS that wind gusts blew snow over the highway and then the snow froze, creating icy patches on the highway.

At last six vehicles were damaged.

The highway was closed in both directions from milemarker 252 to milemarker 254 at 7:20 a.m. Thirty minutes later, CDOT had reopened some lanes.

The 24/7 Weather Team reported wind gusts of 75 mph in the area.
