DENVER - Demolition work on I-25 at U.S. 6 is being extended into next week.
Crews have been working overnight since Sunday to demolish the east portion of U.S. 6 over I-25.
The work was scheduled to be completed on Thursday morning, but the Colorado Department of Transportation said the work will take at least three more nights.
That means drivers should expect lane closures and detours overnight on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (March 23-25) and possibly Wednesday.
Driver should expect:
- Double lane closures on northbound and southbound lanes of I-25 starting at 8 p.m.
- Southbound I-25 drivers will be diverted off the highway at 6th Avenue and northbound I-25 traffic will shift to the southbound lanes under the bridge starting at 10 p.m.
- Southbound I-25 motorists will be detoured west on US 6 to Federal Boulevard then south on Federal to 5th Avenue to take eastbound US 6 and reconnect with southbound I-25.
The road work is scheduled to finish at 5 a.m. each day.
The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for August 2015.
