DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. - A hiker last heard from on Saturday was found Monday and is safe. He disappeared after the first day of his planned 486-mile hike from Waterton Canyon to Durango.
Thomas "Tom" Spencer Owens set out on the trek on Saturday, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported. He was supposed to send a "ping" from his SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger device every night to indicate he is okay, but the only ping received was on Saturday.
Owens had planned to camp in a one-man tent along the Colorado Trail, the Sheriff's Office said.
The Sheriff's Office tweeted at 7:45 p.m. Monday that Owens was found and is safe. They didn't elaborate on where he was found.
