JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - A hiker found human remains on Monday night in Jefferson County, according to the sheriff's office.
The human remains were found on the Hogback, just west of C-470 near Bowles Avenue. That's near Dakota Ridge High School.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said the remains are in a ravine.
Because there is no vehicle access on the hogback and there is no hiking trail, deputies had to wait until daylight on Tuesday to begin their investigation.
When they were able to approach the body, they found it was skeletal remains. Police tweeted it appears to have been there for sometime.
The identity, gender and cause of death are unknown, they added.
For now, investigators say they are treating this as a suspicious death.
