COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - High water from torrential rain forced Commerce City to close a number of roads Wednesday night.
The roads closed for an indefinite period are:
Peoria Street, from 104th to 96th avenues
Tower Road from E. 104th Avenue to E. 81st Avenue (Denver PD has been advised to close Tower Road south of E. 81st Avenue)
E. 96th Avenue at Tower Road from E-470
E. 96th Avenue from Highway 2 to Buckley Road
Buckley Road from E. 96th Avenue to E. 88th Avenue
E. 88th Avenue from Buckley Road to Tower Road
Alternate routes for E. 96th Avenue and Tower Road: State Highway 2 and Quebec St/Parkway from E. 56th Avenue to E. 104th Avenue.
Fairfax Park, which also acts as a detention pond, was about 3 feet below its banks Wednesday night. There is currently quite a bit of storage still available in the park, according to Commerce City. Public Works is pumping water across 69th Avenue to increase outflow capacity. This excess water is being moved into a ditch that will lead into the 72nd Avenue drainage.
Commerce City said the timeframe for reopening the closed roads is dependent upon overnight weather.
