GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — Some students are taking a long weekend away from school to get the full solar eclipse experience. A group of high schoolers from Cherry Creek High School will take a bus up and camp in a Wyoming state park for the much anticipated astronomical event on Monday.
The Cherry Creek School District gave all students free solar eclipse viewing glasses. There are other schools in the Denver metro area doing the same.
The group from Creek will have an eight-hour trek up north to see the eclipse, but the students say the drive is worth it. Some have been looking forward to the solar eclipse for years.
"Something so different and so unusual that I have never seen in my life before. That is just so exciting for me to get to experience in my lifetime," said Cole Alexander, Cherry Creek High School Junior.
"Anyone who has ever seen one says it is an amazing experience but something I feel like you really have to be there to see," said Leah Huzjak, Cherry Creek High School Senior.
