Heavy snow, winds cause problems in Eastern Colorado

DENVER - A snowstorm moving through Colorado is making travel difficult.

U.S. Highway 40 was closed late Wednesday night between Limon and Kit Carson, Colo., due to an accident. 

Colorado Springs officials reported slick roads and multiple accidents Wednesday night.  One area, Austin Bluffs and Old Farm/Barnes, had as many as 70 to 100 vehicles are stuck in the roadway due to icy conditions on Wednesday night.

At least four flights originally headed to Colorado Springs were diverted to Denver International Airport.

DIA, meanwhile, reported about 30 flight cancelations Wednesday night and about 50 flight delays ranging from 20 minutes to four hours.

State transportation department spokeswoman Mindy Crane says hundreds of plows have been deployed across the eastern half of the state. Kansas also was expecting heavy snow.

In southwest Colorado, four inches of new snow was reported Wednesday evening near Pagosa Springs.
