Hearing delayed for Erin Jackson, teacher charged in hit and run of Deyondrah Bridgeman

Hit-and-run occurred near East High School

DENVER - *Update: The defense asked that the hearing be delayed and the judge agreed to give them 30 more days.*

Previous story: An Aurora teacher accused in the hit-and-run of a student outside another school is scheduled to be in court on Monday afternoon.

Surveillance video showed East High School student Deyondrah Bridgeman, 16, walking north in the crosswalk at Colfax Avenue and Elizabeth Street Feb. 27 when a sedan ran a red light and hit her.

“After being struck by the car, the vehicle continued to flee eastbound,” Denver Police Detective Michael Bochert.

Police said they recovered the suspect’s vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, at East Colfax Avenue and Gaylord Street -- five blocks from where the student was struck.

Erin Jackson, a teacher at Axl Academy in Aurora, turned herself in the next day. She is charged with careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Bridgeman was seriously injured in the crash. She spent more than a week in intensive care.
