AURORA, Colo. - Aurora Police are investigating a head-on crash on Interstate 225 early Saturday.
According to police, they received reports of a pick-up truck traveling south in the northbound lanes at 2:21 a.m. A minute later, they were told the pick-up collided head on with a Honda car just north of S. Parker Road.
Police said the adult male driver of the pick-up fled on foot to the south. The suspected driver was apprehended at 2:32 a.m. with the help of a Heather Gardens security guard.
The adult female driver of the Honda received serious, but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. She told police she saw headlights approaching and tried to stop but was unable to avoid the crash.
The area is a construction zone with two through lanes, no shoulders and Jersey barriers on both sides of the road, police said.
The suspected driver of the pick-up was not injured and is suspected of driving while intoxicated, police said. His driving privileges had been canceled / denied.
The suspect driver is being held in jail and a felony case filing is pending, police said. Anticipated charges are vehicular assault, hit and run involving serious bodily injury, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of a divided highway, driving while license denied and no insurance.
He was not identified, pending the filing of charges.
