DENVER -- Comcast is promising to offer a new super fast, home internet service in Colorado next year.
Comcast says it will offer 1-gigabit internet service to its residential customers using the existing wiring that most people already have in their homes.
“Comcast understands that internet speed is critical for customers who want to be able to do more, faster, with as many speed choices as possible,” said Rich Jennings, Regional Senior Vice President for Comcast Mountain West Region. “Early adopters in Colorado will be able to enjoy a new 1-gig internet service that delivers new, ultra-fast speeds using our existing infrastructure.”
Comcast said it currently offers Gigabit Pro in Colorado, a 2-gigabit, fiber-based product that requires a professional installation and equipment, but the 1-gig service will use existing lines. To get the service, customers will need to do is install a new DOCSIS 3.1 compatible cable modem capable of delivering gigabit speeds.
Comcast has not released the prices of its new service.
Comcast tested the DOCSIS 3.1 in Chicago, Atlanta and Nashville, according to the Denver Business Journal.
