Handmade explosive device found, disabled in Colorado Springs, police say

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police disabled a handmade explosive device that was found in Colorado Springs Sunday morning.

Colorado Springs police responded to a report of explosives found on N. 24th Street near West Uintah Street around 9:30 a.m.

Officers examined the device and called in an explosives unit for assistance. Officials with the explosives unit confirmed that it was a handmade explosive device and rendered it safe, police said.

Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
