EVANS, Colo. - A gunman who was shot by an Evans police officer Saturday will be taken straight to jail after he is released from the hospital.
Greeley Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Susan West said an officer of the Evans Police Department was sent to the 4200 block of Mariposa Lane at 1:02 a.m. Saturday in response to a family disturbance. There, the officer was confronted by Gerardo Magallanes, 24.
West said Magallanes' behavior forced the officer to fire his weapon.
Magallanes was taken to North Colorado Medical Center by ambulance that night, where he remains. West said he was taken into police custody Tuesday and will be taken to jail once he is released from the hospital.
The officer involved is on administrative leave. West said that is normal procedure for incidents of this kind.
