GREELEY, Colo. — Police in Greeley are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl who was found by her uncle with a weight from a barbell set lying on top of her.

The child, identified by the Weld County Coroner as Aaliya Marie Montoya, was brought to the North Colorado Medical Center by her parents on Monday.

The child was not breathing and unresponsive when she arrived at the emergency room. Police say there is no evidence of foul play.

According to a statement by the Greeley Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicated Aaliya was playing with a sibling and a cousin, similar in age, in the attached garage of the home in the 1800 block of 30th Street Road, as the father was in a nearby room inside the home.

Aaliya’s uncle was alerted by the children that someone needed to come into the garage and help Aaliya. Police say when the uncle entered the garage, the uncle and father found a weight from a barbell set was lying on top of Aaliya.

Police said the investigation of this incident continues, and the Coroner has not released the cause of death.
