Goats used as weed-control at Colorado Springs park

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Goats will eat anything! So, letting them loose on weed-infested parkland is an all-you-eat dream for the browsing animals.

More than 400 goats are currently grazing around Bear Creek Regional Park in Colorado Springs as part of a weed-control program.

The animals are an alternative to using chemicals to control the pesky weeds that overgrow near the community garden at the park.

Wyoming resident Lani Malmberg, known as the Goat Lady, and her herd of weed-eating cashmere goats have been coming to Bear Creek Park for the past 15 years.

According to Bear Creek Garden’s website, cashmere goats have a sweet tooth for noxious weeds. Their digestive system allows them to eat and digest these weeds without becoming ill.

The city is asking to keep dogs on a leash and away from the goats.
