Go inside the Eisenhower Tunnel and Johnson Tunnel on Interstate 70

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. - For more than 40 years, Coloradans have been driving through a tunnel in the mountain to get between Denver and Summit County.

However, few people know what goes on inside the Eisenhower and Johnson tunnel walls to keep you safe and keep the tunnels operating.

A crew of about 50 employees with the Colorado Department of Transportation work behind the scenes watching cameras that show traffic inside the tunnel, monitoring carbon monoxide levels, tracking traffic volumes and maintaining the systems that make it all run -- the electrical plant, transformers, water treatment plant, exhaust fans and much more.
