Glencoe Valley Fire 100 percent contained in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - The Glencoe Valley Fire was 100 percent contained on Tuesday afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

The fire burned about six acres and five fire agencies were continuing mop-up operations, the Sheriff's Office said via Twitter at about 4:15 p.m. There was no growth in the fire perimeter Tuesday.

Evacuations were lifted about 8 p.m. Monday.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said evacuation alerts were sent to 252 phones in the Blue Mountain Estates subdivision, west of the intersection of Highways 72 and 93.

Kelley said 911 dispatchers began receiving phone calls around 2:20 p.m. Monday about a loud popping sound in the 8300 block of Glencoe Valley Road, near the Swartzwalder Mine. Residents were soon reporting lots of smoke in the area.
