AURORA, Colo. - The Gaylord Hotel and Conference Center project near Denver International Airport will include an indoor/outdoor, year-round waterpark.
"The complex will boast multiple pools and waterslides, including a family play zone, two water slides, a lazy river, and a Colorado hot springs experience, the development company, RIDA Development Corporation, announced Thursday.
"The new amenities will offer another reason for guests and their families to extend their stay beyond official conference dates," stated project developer, Ira Mitzner, President of RIDA Development Corporation. This will give the Gaylord Rockies and Colorado another amenity to attract the more than 300 groups that rotate through Gaylord properties on an annual basis."
"The project will create more than 10,000 construction jobs and 1,550 permanent, direct jobs," stated Maja Rosenquist, Vice President and General Manager of Mortenson Construction.
Gaylord currently has four upscale, meetings-focused resorts near Nashville, Tenn.; Orlando, Fla.; Dallas, Texas; and Washington, D.C. The Aurora development would be Gaylord's first resort and convention hotel west of Texas.
The Colorado Economic Development Commission had approved an $81.4 million incentive package over 30 years for the project. Aurora agreed to provide up to $300 million in incentives.
