The countdown is on to Memorial Day, and in Colorado you can do anything from hitting the ski slopes to riding water slides.

Aspen Mountain will reopen over the weekend for Memorial Day skiing.

From Saturday to Monday the area off the Ajax Express on the upper part of the mountain will be open, and Arapahoe Basin will stay open until the end of next week.

The popular Independence Pass near Aspen is expected to open this week.

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is also scheduled to open Friday.

If you’re finished with the snow for the year Water World opens this Saturday.

Gates will open for the year at 10 a.m. Saturday for the start of its 37th summer.

The park has been named one of the best water parks in the country and there are more than 12,500 feet of water slides.

However, as more people hit the road for the unofficial start to summer you should be prepared to pay more for gas.

According to gasbuddy.com fuel has jumped 7 cents to an average of $2.21 per gallon in Colorado.

Gas prices aren’t expected to top $2.50 a gallon this summer which less than the peak last summer.
