Free pet adoption event a huge success for Foothills Animal Shelter

GOLDEN, Colo. - The free pet adoption event at Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden Sunday was a huge success.

Every available dog at the shelter was adopted, organizers said on the shelter's Facebook page.

"Wow, what an amazing day. In total, 107 animals found loving homes!" organizers said. "A million thanks to everyone who made today possible!"

"We’ll have more dogs available tomorrow, Monday, June 2," the Foothills Animal Shelter website stated. "Feel free to call us at 303.278.7575 to verify if an animal is available."

There are usually lots of photos of adoptable dogs posted on the website, but Monday morning a message on the homepage read, "Sorry, we couldn't find any pets to display at this time."

It was a good day for cats, too.

"After 16 months at the Shelter, Donna was finally adopted today! We are absolutely thrilled to see Donna go to a loving home," organizers said on the shelter's Facebook page.

The free adoption day is part of the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. Foothills Animal Shelter is one of 50 animal shelters across the country competing for grants by getting more animals adopted and saving more lives.

If you didn't make it to the shelter Sunday, the adoption fee will be half-off from June 2-7.
