Free health checks for Colorado miners

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Miners Clinic of Colorado is offering free medical screenings for active and retired miners, including people who worked in the uranium industry.

The free screenings will be offered Thursday and Friday at ParkWest Medical Complex in Pueblo. The screenings include questionnaires, chest X-rays, physical exams and benefits training.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports the Radiation and Exposure Screening and Education Program helps people in Colorado, Wyoming and southeast Utah who may have been harmed by atmospheric nuclear weapons testing and who worked in the uranium mining industry from 1941 to 1972.

The Miners Clinic of Colorado has received federal funding for 10 years to provide free and confidential screenings for other mining-related illnesses.
