FORT LUPTON, Colo. – A Fort Lupton man missing since Christmas was found dead Wednesday inside an overturned car off the side of an embankment along Highway 52.

The Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the man Thursday as Brian Erives, 23. His family reported him missing on Christmas.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office says a cyclist saw the car, which matched the description of the car Erives was last seen in, overturned off an embankment between Weld County roads 41 and 43, west of Hudson, around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Erives family. It’s a tragic end for a young man who was a member of our close-knit community,” Fort Lupton Police Chief Ken Poncelow said in a statement. “We appreciate all of the assistance the public provided in the effort to locate Brian…it was truly a community effort.”

Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash.
