COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Fort Carson soldier is under arrest, accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he met online, Colorado Springs police said Wednesday.
Pvt. Mark Vincent Petrosky, 19, of Landing, N.J., was arrested Tuesday on investigation of sexual assault on a child, police said.
Petrosky's arrest comes a week after U.S. Army officials said several Fort Carson soldiers were under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct involving underage girls. Sources told CNN that up to seven soldiers joined an online dating website and responded to women they thought were at least 18 years old.
On Wednesday, Fort Carson spokeswoman Meghan Williams told 7NEWS she could not comment on whether Petrosky is one of the soldiers connected to the Internet dating investigation.
Pvt. Petrosky has been in the Army one year and is assigned to the 3rd Brigade Armored Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Williams said. He is a Bradley Fighting Vehicle system maintainer.
Petrosky had an earlier arrest on May 11 by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office on two counts of felony trespassing in a dwelling and a misdemeanor count of trespassing in an enclosed, fenced property, according to court records.
The sexual assault investigation began on June 21 when Fountain police arrested Petrosky on two felony counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
On the same day, Fountain police called a Colorado Springs officer to their headquarters regarding the reported sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, according to Fort Collins police spokeswoman Barbara Miller. A Fountain police sergeant said he'd contacted the teen girl in a car with Petrosky.
The girl told police she met the soldier on a website, about eight weeks earlier. She said the two exchanged text messages and then met in person.
The girl said she had consensual sex with Petrosky in his car while they were parked at Quail Lake in Colorado Springs. Under state law, a 14 year old cannot give consent to have sex.
On July 2, a Crimes Against Children Unit detective joined the investigation and ultimately decided there was probable cause to arrest Petrosky for sexual assault on a child, Miller said.
Petrosky remains in El Paso County Jail. He's being held on $10,000 bond in the sex assault on a child case, $3,000 bond in the contributing to the delinquency of a minor case and $2,000 bond in the trespassing case.
