BOULDER, Colo. - A 34-year-old Thornton woman has denied charges stemming from a fatal shooting in Boulder.
The Daily Camera reports Carla Bencomo pleaded not guilty Friday to tampering with evidence and attempting to influence a public official. Her trial is scheduled for Aug. 12.
Sheriff's deputies called to a home in northeast Boulder on Jan. 3 found 37-year-old Edgar Olivas dead from a gunshot wound to his chest.
Investigators say Bencomo, who had dated Olivas, told them he was showing her how to hold a gun when he said "How far are you willing to go to pay for my death?" and pulled the gun toward his chest, causing it to fire.
Bencomo says she wiped the scene down and put the gun in Olivas' hand. An autopsy hasn't been released.
