Former Denver Sheriff's official accused of $20K in thefts, tax evasion

DENVER - The former second-highest ranking member of the Denver Sheriff's Department has been charged with a slew of felonies, including shoplifting from area Target stores.

Michael Than, 46, turned himself in to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office on Thursday on a warrant of felony theft of $20,000 or more, tax evasion and filing false tax returns, according to court documents.

He was indicted by a grand jury in connection with thefts from 2010 through 2013.

Than posted a $10,000 bond, according to court records.
