Now a former air combat pilot is taking readers to new heights in his book "Viper Pilot: A Memoir of Air Combat."

Lt. Col. Dan Hampton was a member of an elite air force fighter squadron. He served more than 20 decades flying some of the most dangerous missions.

The book not only highlights his own brush with death, but heroic stories of others in the force.

He will be in Fort Collins Saturday, Oct. 20 for a book signing. It will take place the Old Firehouse Bookstore in Longmont at 2 p.m. The building is located at 232 Walnut St.
